Inspired by a diverse selection of painted portraits, this works

hop will combine games and hands-on activities to explore some of the formal qualities of art: line, shape, color, pattern and texture. With all the trappings of an artists portrait studio at their disposal (including costumes and props), each kid will create a self-portrait.
Colorful Ideas: Monet's Impressionism
“I have always loved sky and water, leaves and flowers … I found them in abundance in my little pond.” – Claude Monet. Monet’s paintings of his garden at Giverny will be the focus as we learn about the revolutionary style of the Impressionists and explore the concepts of light and color theory. Using flowers as props and examples of Monet’s masterpieces as inspiration, each kid will create a series of Impressionist-style paintings of their own.
Art, Nature, Sculpture
Stacking rocks, weaving leaves, and watching the effects of the wind - nature will be our inspiration as we learn about art made from natural materials. A nature walk (weather
permitting) will accompany hands-on activities and slides of Andy Goldsworthy's sculpture. Each kid will create several original works of art, including an ephemeral sculpture captured by digital photography.
